Summer Service Learning Program In China
The "Summer Service Learning Program in China" (SSLP) brings together U.S. and Tsinghua University students who live, learn and work side-by-side while providing critical educational resources to the poorest regions of China. This low-cost, high-impact program enables hundreds of U.S. and Tsinghua University students to learn about each other's languages and cultures, practice global citizenship, and mitigate chronic poverty at the grass roots level. First launched in 2006, the program has become a successful model for expansion and duplication throughout China. The 2008 program has been expanded to two Sessions so that U.S. participants can enhance their language proficiency and cultural understanding before they join their Tsinghua counterparts for the service learning project.
2008 Program Dates
The 2008 Program offers two separate but closely related sessions. Session One, “Chinese Language and Culture” is scheduled for June 1 – 30. Session Two, “Service Learning in Rural China” is scheduled for July 1 – 22.
